Position – Oil & Gas Software Support Technician

Our client’s core products are petroleum Software Tools that solve major data management problems of the time.  Our Downtown Calgary client has a unique full-time opportunity. Reporting to the Manager of Software Development, you will be responsible for providing technical support and training services for Generwell – a unique and flexible Well Data Management package developed for the Oil & Gas industry. This role involves working with customers on-site to understand and assist with the implementation of their business processes and workflows related to the life cycle of a well (from concept to abandonment).

Specifically, your duties will include the following areas:

  • Professional on-site application training to project team members and to end users.
  • Give guidance and assistance to Micotan Implementation Specialists as they configure Generwell to support customer-specific needs.  
  • Deliver technical support and assistance to customers as they use Generwell on a day-to-day basis.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Fast troubleshooting and resolution skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities
  • Effective team player who can establish and build effective working relationships with customers and co-workers.
  • Able to work at customer sites as a liaison between customer and Micotan development representatives. Must be the face and brand of the company.
  • Software and database knowledge including familiarity with query tools is helpful.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into an organized and concisely understood manner.

  • Excellent problem solver.

  • Able to work independently, but exhibit excellent teamwork with client and co-workers.
  • Handle with ease tight deadlines from time-to-time.

Technical Skills:

  • Structure Query Language (SQL) Programming (e.g. Oracle SQL*Plus)
  • Microsoft Excel functions and macros
  • Business Analysis
  • General Database Administrator (DBA) skills

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Requires a post-secondary degree in Computer Science or Engineering and 1- 4 years’ employment experience in one or more of:

  • an oil and gas company supporting upstream business; or
  • developing/implementing technical software solutions; or
  • IT consulting services company

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position will require 25% travel to client sites (primarily in the Western U.S.)
